For the past 11 years I have been a part of the St Cleopas family as the Learning Mentor and now a supporting role as a HLTA. My time here at St Cleopas has been a continued learning process. Every day I learn something new; especially from the children which I love immensely.
My role is to support all children to understand strategies to barriers to learning. I support the children in many ways, such as whole class circle time – SEAL (Social Emotional Aspects of Learning) as well as small group work. I also work with small group work for interventions and working on an individual basis (1 to 1). I am the middle leader for Maths and assistant coordinator for PSHE and the lead coordinator P4C (Philosophy for children). I also cover classes for the teachers leadership days and PPA cover. I support children through any grieving and loss experience they have I am trained in bereavement support for children. My role also includes playtime and lunch time duty. I have recently been re-elected as the Staff Governor and will serve for another 4 years.
On Thursdays I teach knitting in an after school club from 3 p.m - 4.15 p.m with years 5 and 3pm -4pm for year 2. At present I am teaching 2 members of the staff to crochet, which is also my hobby. My husband and I have just invested in a potters wheel and are taking classes at Lark Lane and have made some interesting pieces! Another interest of mine is genealogy so I can find out about my family history.
I enjoy my work and I love being with the children - they make me smile every day! My door is always open to children, parents and staff. Anyone is welcome to discuss any problems or ideas that they may have.
