We explored why King Alfred the Great was so great!! Did he really burn the cakes?
The children explored his parliament and laws form his reign. He started the Royal Navy and believed education for everyone especially his soldiers and sailors. He changed many books from Latin into Anglo Saxon. We learnt that areas of Liverpool are still names from Anglo Saxon Times. We created a timeline of Alfred's life. We compared his councils to todays Parliament.
Anglo Saxon tribe have been spotted on the River Mersey : police have set a warning to keep a look out. It didn't work out too well for us - we found a tribe member roaming our playground and before he went off to settle, we were able to try on his armour and ask him some burning questions we had.
We have investigated the life and work of Anglo Saxons - we used mathematical nets to create an Anglo Saxon hut using cardboard. We created different lips for connecting the material to using glue and cellotape.
OUR TERRIFYING VOYAGE!
We looked at elements of physics and maths to decide on the best style and design for an Anglo Saxon longboat using wooden blocks. Afterwards, we crammed ourselves in and set off across the treacherous North Sea to invade the UK.
